As you walk through the restored walls of the Clarence House, you are taken on a journey retracing the steps of 19th century British Navy officials, 20th century Caribbean Governor Generals and highly influential British Royalty. The Clarence House is an agglomeration of functions, forms, styles, and eras. Inside, the house boasts expansive living and dining areas that offers breathtaking view of the Antigua Naval Dockyard. Although the view from Clarence house is priceless, the real gem is within the walls as you are taken back in time to the traditional practices of those who came before us. The aesthetic of the house has been restored to its earlier glory. As you move into the living quarters of the house, you are taken in the 18th century lifestyle of a gentleman and his lady. The color palette within the house features the Georgian trends of that period, the accentuate the furniture of the same period, however the house also features Edwardian and Victorian styles that exude regality.
Walking through Clarence House, you will retrace the footsteps of Royal Navy Officers, Governor Generals, and Royalty as they passed along the galleries, observing Nelson’s Dockyard below. This historic building, newly restored to its former glory, is now the interpretive jewel in the National Parks’ crown, showcasing the lives of 19th and 20th centuries military and civilian elites. Set atop Clarence Hill, the details from the renovations are a master class in heritage preservation, while the antique furniture elides Caribbean gentility. The rooms tell you a story of daily life, while the accoutrements seamlessly blend original pieces with locally produced reproductions, showcasing the capabilities of Antiguans artisans usually only reserved for owners of Superyachts.
